Scaling and root planing is a relatively non-invasive deep cleaning procedure used to treat gum disease. This nonsurgical treatment involves two steps: scaling removes plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline, while planing smooths out rough spots on the tooth root to help your gums reattach to your teeth.

This procedure is considered the gold standard treatment for gum disease. In some cases, we may place a small chip called a PerioChip to provide a direct line of treatment for gum disease.
